Feb 27, 2017 (newstodate): The charter and ACMI carrier Small Planet Airlines started testing the market for seat-only sales in 2016 - but this will remain only a secondary business for the carrier.
Starting from the end of May 2016, the carrier offered direct passenger sales on certain flights out of two Polish Airports, Warsaw and Katowice as a test to optimize the utilization of excess capacity on charter flights operated on behalf of Polish tour operators.
-The test performed according to expectations, but we have not completed the analysis of the actual effects from this, says Vytautas Kaikaris, Small Planet Airlines Group CEO.
-Sales were OK, but we threw only limited quantities into the market. The main outcome is probably that by this we have gained deeper insight into the functioning of this market as well as experience with pricing of air fares.
-We may perform similar tests in 2017, but there should be no doubt: Small Planet Airlines is a B2B carrier and when excess capacity is put up for bookings this is just as a means of optimizing the utilization rate of our capacity, and a supplementary business only, says Mr Kaikaris
