Feb 08, 2017 (newstodate): Lithuania is keen to develop the connectivity of the country with the global marketplace.
To support the continued growth of new international routes from the three airports under the state-owned enterprise Lithuanian Airports, efforts will be focused on attracting airlines to launch services on routes from Vilnius Airport to Tbilisi, Astana, Beijing, Tokyo, New York, Chicago, Prague, Geneva, Venice, Doha, Dubai and other destinations.
From Kaunas Airport, the focus is on new routes to Helsinki, Luleaa, Oulu, Oslo, Tampere, Trondheim, Turku, and Umea, while efforts will be made to attract traffic from Palanga to destinations including Billund, Dusseldorf, Hamburg, Dublin, Helsinki, and St Petersburg.
In early 2016, Lithuania introduced an incentive scheme offering support in opening and consolidating new routes for a period up to three years.
To qualify, a new route must be served at least two times weekly, and the launch of services must be not later than May 31, 2018.
