Feb 02, 2017 (newstodate): While still publicly unannounced, Iraqi Airways may now be allowed back into EU airspace.
Since August 2015, Iraqi Airways has been banned from the airspace of EU and four other European nations following a series of alleged safety lapses and inability to provide documentation to EASA.
According to Russian media, EASA has now lifted the ban on Iraqi Airways that will be free to return services on routes into EU countries, but it will still need to obtain Third Country Operator Authorization by EASA to operate scheduled services between EU and third country markets.
The EU ban on the carrier was prompted after EASA denied the carrier's request to be issued a Third Country Operator Authorization.
Until then, Iraqi Airways had been operating scheduled flights between Stockholm Arlanda and Baghdad, Najaf and Erbil in Iraq as well as flights between Copenhagen Airport and Baghdad and Erbil.
