Feb 22, 2017 (newstodate): Estonia's Tallinn Airport saw a strong recovery in cargo volumes in January 2016, compared to the preceding year.
A total of 1,124 tones of cargo and mail was handled at the airport, an increase by no less than 72.7 percent, y-o-y.
It should be noted, however, that January 2016 was marked by a strong decrease in volumes by 23.4 percent, providing a low base for comparison.
In January 2017 the airport handled 942 tonnes of cargo, up 84 percent y-o-y, and 182 tonnes of mail, up 30 percent.
On the air cargo side, both imports and exports increased by 87 and 81 percent, respectively.
Until the global crisis starting in 2008-2009, Tallinn Airport thrived on ex-China imports transited to Russia via Estonia, with volumes for instance in January 2008 rising by 224 percent to a total of 2,296 tonnes of cargo, including 2,218 tonnes of cargo and 78 tonnes of mail.
