Feb 21, 2017 (newstodate): Provider of handling services at Iceland's Keflavik Airport, Airport Associates is seeing brisk growth as more and more airlines focus on Iceland.
Traditionally, Icelandair's handling company at Keflavik, IGS has been the largest provider with some 80 percent of the ground handling market in 2013, but down to 73 percent in 2015 - and to about 39 percent in 2016, while Airport Associates has grown its market share to currently about 50 percent.
-We are indeed seeing business thriving, and while we employed some 300 staff in 2015, we are now at about 500 and will operate with some 650 staff during the coming summer season, says Sigthor Skulason, Airport Associates managing director.
-On the cargo side we are seeing positive growth as well, and by the end of this year we will commission our new cargo premises with some 7,000 sq m of ware house, including cooling facilities, offices and staff facilities, says Mr Skulason.
The company's customer portfolio includes British Airways, Cargolux, Delta Airlines, UPS, Air Berlin, Eurowings, Bluebird Cargo, Air Baltic, Fly Niki, First Choice Airways, WOW air, Primera Air, easyJet, Norwegian, Germania, Baseops Europe, Avcon, Transavia, Corendon, MNG Airlines, Volga Dnepr, Airbridge, ABX air, with more newcomers in the pipeline.
