Feb 09, 2017 (newstodate): The US President is to meet with top-level US airline CEOs today - and the application by Norwegian to be free to operate from its Irish base into the US market will be on the agenda.
To some surprise, it seems that the new government will be more liberal on this issue than the previous Obama administration.
According to one Irish media, Donald Trump will thus not block Norwegian.
Interviewed by The Independent, the president's spokesman Sean Spicer said that President Trump's attitude is influenced also by Norwegian's large aircraft orders for Boeing aircraft.
-From what I understand, we are talking about a deal where 50 percent of the crew and pilots are based in the United States, Mr Spicer said.
-They fly Boeing aircraft. It is a major economic interest in the United States in the agreement right now, he added.
Norwegian has currently 128 orders for Boeing 737 types of aircraft for regional and European operations, as well as 20 orders for Boeing 787 aircraft for long-haul operations.
In service now with Norwegian are already 103 Boeing 737-800 and 12 Boeing 787 aircraft.
