Dec 22, 2017 (newstodate): With the lofty ambitions of becoming "the Global Cargo Hub of Europe", Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport is now planning for the next step in project.
On the table are plans for construction of a second cargo terminal, with start in 2018 in cooperation with Aeroflot, Volga-Dnepr Group and other cargo operators.
The new terminal - the second step in the current plan - will be designed to handling of 380,000 tonnes per year, allowing the airport to increase its total cargo turnover to more than 700,000 tons annually by 2024.
Only this December, the first phase of the ambitious plan saw the start of operations at the new 43,200 sq m cargo terminal at Sheremetyevo Airport, already providing the capacity to handling of up to 380,000 tonnes of cargo annually.
Handling of international cargo will be transferred to this terminal by the end of January 2018.
