Dec 06, 2017 (newstodate): After a long period of negotiations, the Polish carrier LOT has decided to start flights on a new route to Lithuania.
With the first operation on May 21, 2018, the carrier will be offering six weekly rotations on the route between Warsaw and Kaunas, in Lithuania, using Bombardier Q400 aircraft.
One key driver behind the new route is Kaunas' regional government that brings in support from its incentive scheme to further the region's connectivity.
LOT first experienced the efficiency of Kaunas Airport during this year's period of runway refurbishment at Vilnius Airport when all air traffic was relocated to Kaunas Airport as a temporary measure.
Kaunas Airport will become the Polish carrier's third destination in Lithuania where Palanga Airport was added as the second point of service on March 28, 2016, after Vilnius that has been in LOT's network for decades.
