Dec 04, 2017 (newstodate): Russia's new green-field airport Rostov-on-Don Platov Airport will be fully operational from December 7, 2017, replacing the existing Rostov-on-Don Airport.
All flights will thus be transferred to the new airport from December 7, and the old airport will be fully shut down accordingly.
Platov Airport received Rosaviatsiya's approval for the official opening on November 27, 2017, and features an ICAO category II, 3600m x 45m runway, an apron accommodating 45 aircraft and an apron for cargo operations.
Rostov-on-Don Platov Airport has been built for the 2018 World Cup and aims for a role in connecting flights between Asia, the CIS and Europe.
The new airport will become a hub of a new Russian regional carrier Azimuth Airlines that will provide domestic flights in Russia's south region, performing its first technical flights into Platov Airport on November 18, 2017.
