Dec 06, 2017 (newstodate): The Icelandic LCC WOW Air has long been mulling plans for start of flights from Iceland to Asia - and news are reportedly to be announced soon.
Speaking at an Icelandic business club on December 4, the carrier's CEO, Skuli Mogensen said that WOW Air plans to start services to a yet-unnamed Asian destination already within the coming "few" months.
WOW Air sees potentials for Keflavik Airport to become a new aviation hub connecting destinations in North America, Europe and Asia, building on the undisputed successes over the years by Icelandair and WOW Air in building up transfer traffic between North America and Europe.
When realized, the coming Asian flight from Keflavik Airport will also be Iceland's first direct non-stop connection to Asia.
The new long-haul ambitions of WOW Air are based also on the carrier's introduction of four new Airbus A330-900neo aircraft from 2018.
The new fuel-efficient wide-body aircraft will have the capacity of flying for up to 12 hours, translating into a full rotation between for instance Keflavik and Beijing within 24 hours.
