Dec 05, 2017 (newstodate): As part of its Horizon 2021 business plan, the Latvian carrier airBaltic has committed itself to operating 11 direct routes out of Tallinn and Vilnius.
And the plan still holds as airBaltic currently offers flights from Vilnius in Lithuania to Amsterdam, Berlin, Munich, Riga and Tallinn, and from Tallinn in Estonia to Amsterdam, Berlin, Vienna, Riga and Vilnius.
-As we take in more aircraft, more routes will be opened, says Martin Gauss, airBaltic President & CEO.
-Estonia is a small market, but with a need for connectivity. In this market we compete with Estonia's new carrier Nordica that is supported by LOT, but we are doing well and there is room for more.
-The Lithuanian market is different from Estonia as we are facing two large competitors here - Ryanair and Wizz Air holding the #1 and the #2 positions, respectively. Even so, there is ample business potentials as shown by our launch of services from Vilnius to Munich from summer 2017 which has proved a success.
-Both Estonia and Lithuania as also connected to airBaltic's extensive route network by flights to Riga Airport as well as the flights between these two markets, says Mr Gauss.
Since the opening of the two bases at Tallinn and Vilnius in November 2014, airBaltic has carried more than 1,600,000 passengers from Tallinn and Vilnius combined.
In 2017 alone, the volume of passengers carried in both cities has grown by 23 and 20 percent, respectively, according to airBaltic figures.
