Dec 20, 2017 (newstodate): Qatar Airways cannot be accused of overly haste in its planning for expansion in Russia.
With great fanfare, the carrier has now launched flights to its 2nd destination in Russia - St Petersburg, where the inauguration took place on December 19, and Qatar is thus now offering a daily rotation from Doha with Airbus A320 aircraft.
Qatar Airways first started flying to Russia on August 1, 2004 between Doha and Moscow Domodedovo International Airport with four weekly flights, later going up to five weekly rotations aiming at daily connections - but is now back to three weekly flights.
The new route to St Petersburg also offers more than 10 tonnes of weekly belly hold cargo capacity to and from St Petersburg, increasing the overall belly hold cargo capacity to and from Russia with more than 40 tonnes each way per week.
