Nov 16, 2017 (newstodate): Kazakhstan is keen to increase its connectivity with the world and has indeed seen both passenger and cargo volumes up in 2017.
During the first 10 months of this yer, Astana Airport has seen an increase by 25 percent in passenger volumes, to 3,609,123 passengers including 1,352,618 passengers on international flights - up no less than 41 percent, y-o-y.
Also on the cargo side, the growth has been remarkable with 10,340 tonnes handled at Astana Airport, up 38 percent, y-o-y.
The significant rise in volumes is no less thanks to the traffic generated by the World Expo 2017 in the Kazakh capital Astana in summer 2017.
During the EXPO, foreign airlines were allowed to make daily direct flights to Astana, Kazakhstan, without restraints.
As a result, the country saw an increase in passengers flying into Astana by 88 percent, y-o-y, as 10 international airlines offered flights from a spree of destinations including Warsaw, Budapest, Helsinki, Beijing and Batumi.
Based on these promising developments, Kazakhstan's aviation authorities have decided to prolong the open skies mode with the restriction that no airline may operate more then seven weekly rotations on flights to Astana.
