Nov 23, 2017 (newstodate): Albania needs a national carrier - and a venture is underway.
Making its first appearance on the facebook page of the country's prime minister, Air Albania was expected to be launched already by the end of this year, but plans are now rather to see the start in 2018, or in the words of the prime minister: "soon".
Supporting the setup of the coming new national carrier is Turkish Airlines that has been involved in a feasibility study to assess the needs and the markets as well as an initial route structure.
Based on these findings, Air Albania will start out with flights from Tirana Mother Teresa International Airport to Skopje, Pristina, Podgorica, Sarajevo, and Zagreb, as well to destinations in Western Europe.
Albania has been without a flag carrier since 2011 when the country's Civil Aviation Authority revoked the AOC of Albanian Airlines.
