Nov 17, 2017 (newstodate): The Latvian carrier airBaltic was first to take delivery of the new Bombardier CS300 aircraft - and with currently seven aircraft operating, the enthusiasm for the aircraft has not dampened.
On the contrary: speaking to reporters during the recent Dubai Airshow, the airline's CEO, Martin Gauss, revealed that airBaltic has decided to go all-in for a Bombardier CS-fleet.
With few details to be added at this point, airBaltic is thus to order "at least" 14 additional CS aircraft, including options for an additional aircraft as the airline seeks the growth.
The new order would replace the Q400 NextGen turboprop aircraft.
The coming order for new CS aircraft would comprise a mix of the larger CS300 replenishing the fleet serving longer routes and the smaller CS100 aircraft to replace the Q400 aircraft on shorter and regional routes.
airBaltic's fleet comprises 12 Q400 aircraft to be phased out by 2022 as well as 11 Boeing 737 aircraft that will also slated to leave the carrier in 2022.
Serving airBaltic now are seven CS300 aircraft, one more will be delivered before the end of this year, and firm orders have been placed for a further 13 aircraft.
