Nov 09, 2017 (newstodate): ATR 72-600 is already operated as a freighter aircraft, although after conversion from passenger version.
A new future for the aircraft has opened, however, with an order from FedEx for a pure freighter version of the aircraft.
The integrator has placed a firm order for 30 ATR 72-600F, with options for a further 20.
With a new windowless fuselage and equipped with a forward Large Cargo Door and a rear upper hinged cargo door the new freighter will have a bulk capacity of 74.6 m3, and when in ULD mode accommodating up to seven LD3 containers, or five 88 x 108, or nine 88 x 62 pallets.
Deliveries are slated to commence from 2020.
