Nov 28, 2017 (newstodate): Croatia's Zadar Airport has not given up hopes since 2014 for direct flight connections with China.
As one recent effort to revive the plan, Zadar Airport's General Manager has met with the Chinese ambassador to inform of the country's development potentials, as well as the potentials for direct flights between the two nations.
In 2015, the airport was in negotiations with Hainan Airlines over possible services from Chongqing, in China's south-west, to Zadar, which would have continued on to Rome - but the plans never materialized.
Again in 2017, the airport was in talks with China Southern Airlines over possible services from Guangzhou, but these plans also ended without result.
Driving the efforts to materialize the projects has been Croatia's Chinese Southeast European Business Association, CSEBA, set up in February 2014 on the initiative of former Croatian President Stjepan Mesic.
