Nov 17, 2017 (newstodate): The volumes of e-trade shipments through Sweden's Stockholm Arlanda Airport are continuing to grow at an explosive rate.
"A pleasant challenge", Swedavia's General Manager Cargo, Bas van Goch earlier told newstodate, and his words were immediate applauded by PostNord's Nordic E-commerce Advisor, Arne Andersson.
Only in July 2017, the volumes of e-trade shipments from China into Stockholm Arlanda grew by 60 percent, y-o-y, and in a recent update from PostNord, the rate of growth has reached 65 percent as 24 mio shipments from China are now handled at the airport.
As of now, up to 150,000 letters and parcels containing e-trade commodities are handled on a daily basis, but the actual volume varies unpredictably as the shipments are not, in contrast to "normal" air cargo, surrounded by a comprehensive IT system to facilitate planning and logistics.
Adding to the challenge is the fact that many shipments are off-size letters that require manual handling, bypassing the automatic sorting machinery.
