Nov 13, 2017 (newstodate): The Latvian carrier airBaltic is to grow its business in the market of Azerbaijan.
airBaltic has been online on the route between Riga and Baku since the first flight on May 3, 2016, operated with Boeing 737 aircraft.
The route is operated during the summer schedules only, and airBaltic will be offering two weekly rotations using CS300 aircraft in summer 2018, against only one weekly flight in summer 2017.
airBaltic has also now been established a legal entity in Baku.
-In order to sell tickets on our ticket stock we need to be in IATA BSP and to obtain this, the local legal requirement is to have a legal representative office in Azerbaijan, Toms Andersons, airBaltic VP Sales.
-In the summer 2018 schedule, airBaltic will increase frequency on the route Riga-Baku, and to support this we will need to generate more sales in the Azer market.
-With no GSA in Azerbaijan, passenger sales in this market are managed by our office in Moscow. Having our own ticket stock and being in BSP in Azerbaijan will support our efforts to facilitate and lift our sales, says Mr Andersons.
And Azerbaijan does indeed seem to be in positive growth mode in 2017.
During the first 10 months of this year, passenger volumes through Baku Heydar Aliyev International Airport soared by 20 percent, y-o-y, to 3.46 million, thus exceeding the all-year volumes in 2016.
The airport is now seeing 30 airlines flying to 53 destinations.
