Nov 30, 2017 (newstodate): Celebrating the anniversary today of the first arrival in Riga Airport of the Bombardier CS300, the Latvian carrier airBaltic is enthused by the capabilities of the aircraft.
-It is a perfect match for us and has delivered above expectations and performed even better than promised by the specs when it comes to fuel efficiency and range, says Martin Gauss, airBaltic President and CEO.
-The C-series aircraft is a cornerstone for realization of our business model and the 2021 strategy, and we receive only overwhelmingly positive passenger response to the aircraft's comfort to the extent that some passengers have even asked if their flight would be performed by a CS300 aircraft before they decide on the travel.
-Seven CS300 aircraft are now in service with airBaltic, one more will arrive at Riga around the turn of the year. Then there will be a pause in deliveries until summer 2018, and by the end of 2018 there will be 14 aircraft in the fleet. The remaining six deliveries will then follow in 2019 completing the current order.
-We have signaled that orders will be placed for a further 14 C-Series aircraft and we are authorized to go ahead with this independent from issues concerning the future ownership structure of the airline. These additional aircraft will be purchased on a sale/lease-back solution and will thus not be figuring on the airline's balance sheet, says Mr Gauss.
The renewed order for C-Series aircraft is still under negotiation, and in the meantime the CS program has been acquired by Airbus.
-This will probably have an impact on the future price but it will also enhance the residual value of the aircraft already in our fleet and owned by us, says Mr Gauss.
