Nov 03, 2017 (newstodate): With seven Bombardier CS300 now in the fleet, the Latvian carrier airBaltic is satisfied with the aircraft - also as to its cargo performance.
-For the airBaltic cargo department, the long range is the best thing about the new Bombardier CS300 aircraft, says Ilja Seliverstovs, airBaltic Head of Cargo.
-It is capable of reaching distant destinations highly in demand that airBaltic was unable to operate previously. For example, our new direct service from October 29, 2017, between Riga and Abu Dhabi provides excellent opportunities to offer customers fast and reliable service not only to Abu Dhabi, but a number of destinations across the world with our interline partner Etihad Cargo, too, enhancing our attractiveness in the market.
-The volume and weight restrictions for CS300 are similar to those of Boeing 737. Still, unlike the Boeing 737, cargo and baggage are loaded bulk, using belt loaders similar to the Airbus A320 family aircraft.
-We did not really encounter issues with ground handling companies as the implementation was smooth. On occasion we had to reassure ground handling companies at some outstations that the cargo compartment volume is really not smaller, just longer and slightly narrower, says Mr Seliverstovs.
