Oct 23, 2017 (newstodate): Turkish Cargo sees huge potentials in expanding the role of Denmark's Billund Airport as a freighter gateway not only in the Danish, but also in the North German market.
As one new development along these lines starting from October 29, 2017, Turkish Cargo is to dedicate its freighter service on Sundays to Billund Airport exclusively while having so far shared the capacity with Vienna.
Turkish Cargo launched its first weekly freighter service from Istanbul to Billund on April 10, 2016, shared with Vienna, adding the second weekly freighter service from early November 2016, shared with Amsterdam.
-While imports were still lagging somewhat behind in the beginning, we had now grown short of import capacity on the route to Billund, with growth in e-trade volumes but not least in postal volumes, says Cem Kavas, Turkish Airlines Regional Cargo Manager Denmark.
-So far we have flown postal shipments for Denmark into Stockholm Arlanda for trucking into Copenhagen. Now we will fly post directly into Billund for trucking to Copenhagen, reflecting the growth in this business.
-On the export side we are seeing positive growth as well, also providing capacity for our colleagues in Hamburg as well as marketing Billund Airport as an efficient cargo gateway for the North German market.
-We are now well established in the market, customers have gained confidence in our product at Billund Airport and the airport has contributed enormously to setting up our freighter services as a viable and reliable offer in the market.
-Day by day we are growing our export and import volumes, and maybe we will soon see the Thursday freighter, now shared with Amsterdam, going solely between Istanbul and Billund, and within maybe only a few years we will be able to add even a third weekly freighter rotation at Billund Airport, says Mr Kavas.
