Oct 30, 2017 (newstodate): Airfreight volumes through Sweden's three largest airports managed by Swedavia continue to grow in 2017.
According to the latest figures on the performance in January-September 2017, the airports of Stockholm Arlanda, Gothenburg and Malmo together handled a total of 200,503 tonnes of cargo - an increase by 7.8 percent, y-o-y.
While significant, the growth rate thus slowed down a bit compared to the figures on H1,2017, when the three airports together were up 8.2 percent, y-o-y, in cargo volumes.
Volumes handled at Stockholm Arlanda Airport were up 11.2 percent, y-o-y, during the first nine months of 2017, to 133,515 tonnes, thus growing even more than during H1 2017 when volumes were up 10.6 percent.
Gothenburg Airport grew its nine-months volumes by nine percent, to 47,609 tonnes, while the growth was 12 percent during H1, 2017.
Malmo Airport handled a total of 19,379 tonnes of cargo during the nine months, down 13 percent, y-o-y, after falling 11.1 percent during H1, primarily due to the loss of the freighter service by AirBridgeCargo Airlines that moved instead its twice-weekly Boeing 747-8F freighter to Norway's Oslo Airport from November 15, 2016.
The significant increase in volumes at Stockholm Arlanda Airport is primarily generated by passenger aircraft, while Gothenburg Airport is seeing a number of ad-hoc freighter operations.
While the import/export ratio in H1, 2017, was 45/55, it was 48/52 in the nine-months period.
