Oct 27, 2017 (newstodate): The Polish airport with an idiomatic name, John Paul II International Airport KrakowBalice will need a major upgrade to cope with increasing passenger and cargo loads.
According to the General Plan for the Development of the Airport until 2036, some 235 mio euro will be needed as investments in infrastructure, with the total project divided into three stages.
In the first stage, the bulk of the investments will go to construction of a new 2,800m runway, and in the next two stages, 2022-2026 and 2027-2036, the main investments will be directed to the construction of a new 80,000 sq m passenger terminal, a new cargo terminal, and new parking stands for aircraft and as well as a hangar.
With one 2,550m runway, Krakow Airport (for short!) is the country's second-largest airport serving five mio passengers in 2016.
