Oct 31, 2017 (newstodate): Scarcity of pilots is increasingly becoming a challenge for airlines seeking cockpit crews for growing fleets of aircraft.
One airline to feel the problem is Norwegian that is now taking a new initiative by setting up its own ab-initio pilot training college in Norway, according to Scandinavian media reports.
Together with Espen Hiby, owner and CEO of the pilot recruiting company OSM, Norwegian has thus acquired 51 percent of Scandinavian Aviation Academy in Sweden to establish an own new training facility at the privately-owned Arendal Airport with a 1,120m runway, in southern Norway.
The aim is to turn out 100 fully-fledged pilots annually.
