Oct 03, 2017 (newstodate): Estonia is strengthening its bid for a role as a hub for e-logistics.
The Estonian logistics company Freselle Logistic has entered a JV with Jersey Post, the postal company of Jersey in UK, to provide international, cross-border postal and logistics services to retail and business customers in the Baltic countries as well as Central and Eastern Europe.
-Teaming up with our new JV partner will bring in fresh investments and not least add the license to handling of postal shipments, but Post Jersey also has an important network that will add to our capabilities, says Erki Lastik, Freselle Logistic managing director.
-We are seeing the volumes of e-shipments increasing rapidly, and Estonia is ideally placed geographically to serve as a hub for distribution to markets including not only the Baltic countries, but not least Russia that is the fastest-growing in e-trade as well as countries in central and eastern Europe,
-Goods are coming in by sea and by air and we have several strategically located terminals in the country, including one at Tallinn Airport and another at Muuga Harbour. We also have an own fleet of trucks, currently mainly serving Estonia, but the fleet will be expanded to operate into other markets as well as we would like to control the trucking services ourselves.
-We are well aware of Estonia's other big player in this field, Post11, but I really do not see us as competitors only. Rather, we should find ways of cooperating as well to boost the role of Estonia as a major e-logistics hub, says Mr Lastik.
