Oct 26, 2017 (newstodate): Competition in air cargo handling will get a fresh boost at Finland's Helsinki Airport after March 1, 2018.
Aviator Finland and ASR Cargo Center will offer airline customers joint on-airport cargo handling at Helsinki through one-stop ground- and cargo handling service.
Today, Finnair and Swissport are alone in providing cargo handling services at the airport, leaving Aviator Finland to offer only ground handling services while ASR, launching business from March 3, 2014, provides cargo handling with a focus on airfreight trucking at its off-airport cargo terminal.
-Together with ASR, Aviator will move into part of the existing Finnair Cargo terminal at Helsinki Airport as Finnair Cargo moves into its new COOL Terminal, says Veijo Karosvuo, Aviator Finland Managing Director.
-We expect to move into the terminal in February 2018, with cargo handling staff provided by our partner ASR and will thus be in a position to start working from day 1.
-So far Aviator Finland has not had an own terminal at Helsinki Airport so this new situation provides us with an entirely new opportunity to boost business among airlines operating at the airport.
-We trust that increasing competition in cargo handling at Helsinki Airport will add also to the attractiveness of the airport itself among airlines, says Mr Karusvuo.
In 2014, the EU Commission approved Aviator's acquisition of Servisair including the ground handling operations in Finland, but the ex-Servisair cargo terminal at Helsinki Airport remained with Swissport, leaving Aviator Finland without an own cargo terminal - a situation that is now going to change from 2018.
