Oct 11, 2017 (newstodate): A ground-breaking ceremony was performed on October 10, 2017, marking the first step towards establishing a new international airport on the border between Sweden and Norway.
Backed by state and private regional funds, Scandinavian Mountains Airport will build on the premises of an existing small civilian airport in northern Sweden's mountainous region adjoining a similar region in Norway, and plans include the construction of a 2,500 m runway to facilitate operations by charter aircraft up to the size of Airbus A320 and Boeing 737.
Also in the plans is the construction of a 3,000 sq m building housing a passenger terminal and offices.
Heading Scandinavian Mountains Airport since November 2015 as Managing Director is Brett Weihart, formerly serving with Swedavia in various positions for seven years.
