Jan 05, 2017 (newstodate): Lithuania's fourth international airport, Siauliai Airport is keen to grow its freighter cargo volumes - but times are not too promising..
-In 2016 we handled some 3,600 tonnes of freighter cargo which was roughly on a par with our earlier estimates, says Arturas Jurkevicius, Head of Siauliai Airport's Ground Handling and Cargo Division.
-We have all pertinent infrastructure in place, including a 600 sq m cool facility and a 1,000 sq m warehouse, and in 2016 we also completed the construction of a new aircraft apron area that is only 30 m from the terminals.
-Globally, the situation is however not too good for us. Our prime business has been focusing on markets including China, Russia, and Turkey and in light of the current political developments our expectations are rather dim.
-I would hesitate to announce any estimate for cargo volumes in 2017 before closer to the end of the year, says Mr Jurkevicius.
