Jan 27, 2017 (newstodate): Sweden's 4th largest airport, measured in charter traffic, Norrkoping Airport noted a break-through with scheduled services in 2016. And more news in 2017 may be underway..
The airport has called to a press conference today under the headline: new development in scheduled air services at Norrkoping Airport.
Starting from April 15, 2016, BMI Regional launched flights in a code-share with Lufthansa on a new route connecting Munich and Norrkoping, offering six weekly rotations using Embraer 145 aircraft on the route.
This is so far the only scheduled service at the airport while the summer schedules also see domestic flights between Norrkoping and Visby.
On the cargo side, the airport claims to have performed last year above 2015-levels thanks to several ad-hoc freighter flights including the airport's first Boeing 747-400F from the Israeli carrier CAL Cargo Airlines operating directly from a US airport to Norrkoping carrying a special load of 12 select race horses to take part in the annual horse racing event Elitloppet May 27-29, at Solvalla not far from the airport.
Benefiting from its BIP status obtained in 2007, handling of shipments of horses has been a specialty at Norrkoping Airport that is also seeing one Icelandair Boeing 757-200F freighter flight today flying in another batch of Icelandic horses.
