Jan 16, 2017 (newstodate): The LCC Norwegian is ready to open a spree of new routes in 2017 - but few will have Norway as their points of departure.
-There is currently little growth to be reaped on routes out of Norway, said Norwegian's CEO Bjorn Kjos, at a press conference on Friday, January 13.
Instead, Norwegian is to launch about 50 new routes in 2017, primarily in the USA, Asia, and new markets like Argentine and Chile.
Norwegian is also ready to launch new Asian routes from Scandinavia, but this will hinge of obtaining open access to Russia's airspace to avoid long detours and compete on equal terms wit the Scandinavian carrier SAS.
Mr Kjos is therefore urging Norway to start negotiations with Russia separately, instead of continuing the current aviation talks set-up that is based on the three Scandinavian countries' joint ownership of SAS.
Mr Kjos thus adds further momentum to the voices from Norway's booming seafood exports that is also limited in its direct flight venues to the Asian markets.
-Given its magnitude, Norway's seafood exports should have its own voice. I would really prefer that we could negotiate with the Russians directly to land a better solution in a shorter time, Bjorn Ronald Olsen, North Cape King Crab CEO, said in an interview with newstodate on January 6, 2017.
