Jan 06, 2017 (newstodate): After a long and twisted process, the start of services by a new Norwegian domestic carrier FlyViking is now approaching.
The carrier expects to receive its operating license in February 2017 and plans to start flights soon after on a number of domestic airports in the northern parts of Norway including Alta, Hammerfest, Tromso og Bodoe, with several more points to be added successively.
One Dash-8-100 aircraft was landed in FlyViking's livery already in November 2016, and a second aircraft will join the fleet shortly.
FlyViking aims at competing with Wideroe on low prices and low-key service.
Starting out from a modest base, the carrier, managed and owned by Ola Giaver, plans to lease up to 19 leased aircraft, with the first 10 to be delivered on a leasing contract with the Canadian company Avmax, Canada, over the coming two years.
