Jan 10, 2017 (newstodate): While aviation is by its very nature an international, cross-border business, national politics still play the upper hand in many cases.
One fresh example is emerging in India where the Airport Authority of India is planning to install ADS-B, a surveillance based technology for civil aviation safety on buoyancy all around the country's oceanic boundaries.
Because of its tense relations with its neighbor Pakistan, India has however informed ICAO that is not overly happy with sharing the flight data with Pakistan out of fear that the system's live information about the exact positions of aircraft may be misused to harm India's interests.
ICAO has urged the world's airlines and regulators to jointly develop and implement a system to constantly monitor the actual whereabouts of any aircraft - in response to the tragic experience with Malaysia Airlines' flight MH370 that disappeared without leaving any trace.
