Sep 07, 2016 (newstodate): The political and military strife between Ukraine and Russia is having a deep impact on aviation issues between the two countries.
As a recent move, Antonov is threatening Russia that it has the authority to revoke the license for Russian carriers to operate Antonov aircraft on international flights.
Antonov claims that Russian companies, notably Ilyushin, is working to move the maintenance of Antonov aircraft from Ukraine to Russian providers, and revoking the license to operate Antonov aircraft by Russian airlines may be a retaliatory measure if these efforts gain impetus.
If enforced, this measure would hit not least the Volga-Dnepr Group's use of AN-124 and AN-225 freighter aircraft that play a crucial role in global logistics.
Antonov will thus also abrogate its cooperation with Volga-Dnepr comprising the launch in 2006 of the joint company Ruslan International Ltd that is also a provider to NATO of the Ruslan SALIS program.
