Sep 01, 2016 (newstodate): Sky Greenland, now comprising also Denim Air, is determined to launch flight services between Europe and Canada via Greenland from 2017.
Plans are to start operations from March 28, 2017, on a route network comprising two destinations in Canada and five destinations in Eurepe.
-We are still negotiating with Sukhoi and Russian banks for lease of up to five Superjet 100 aircraft, but these negotiations are drawing out due to specific contract requirements from our side, says Gert Brask, Sky Greenland owner and CEO.
-As a back-up plan we have now secured access to Airbus A320 capacity to cover up for any protracted delays in the contract for Superjet capacity.
-On the European side, the Danish operation will be based at Aalborg Airport due to the proximity to the Danish harbor serving Greenland as well as the localization of many enterprises engaged in trade and business with Greenland.
-In addition operations will be started from four other European airports, including Amsterdam where we are already present with Denim Air, while the other European airports will be announced in due time.
-In Canada we will be serving Toronto and Halifax, and negotiations with the Canadian authorities are already on the agenda.
-All flights will transit through Greenland and the points of departures will then rotate between the five European airports and the airports in Canada, says Mr Brask.
