Sep 05, 2016 (newstodate): Russia is soon to see the launch of services by the second carrier operating Boeing 747 freighters.
Sky Gates Airlines is in the process of obtaining its AOC to operate Boeing 747 freighters, the first of which, an ex-Cathay Pacific Boeing 747-400F has already been signed on an operating lease contract.
From the start, the carrier will operate from Moscow Domodedovo Airport, but the carrier will more to Moscow Zhukovsky Airport once a new cargo terminal has been constructed there.
The new carrier, with Piotr Morozov as general manager, plans to operate two or three Boeing 747-400F aircraft on routes connecting Russia and destinations in the Far East as well as operating domestic cargo flights.
Hopes are to be able to launch commercial services by October 2016, in time for taking part in the coming Christmas peak.
Till now, only the Volga-Dnepr Group's AirBridgeCargo has been offering Boeing 747 freighter capacity.
