Sep 05, 2016 (newstodate): News of future Chinese production of the Ukrainian freighter AN-225 Mriya seem to be somewhat overdone by the media.
Earlier reports said that Antonov would transfer all technologies, plans and production licenses pertaining to the Mriya, including the D-18T engine, to the Chinese partner China Airspace Industry Group Ltd that plans to establish two production sites, one in Luzhou in Sichuan Province, and the second in Guigang.
Antonov now, however, stresses that talks with the Chinese partner have their focus on completion and modernization of the second AN-225 airframe that has been in the hangar for years.
In a lather phase of cooperation, Antonov will consider starting serial production of the large freighter aircraft in China, but on a license by the Ukrainian party that will retain the type certificate and all intellectual property rights.
