Sep 09, 2016 (newstodate): The Polish carrier LOT has presented a new and ambitious 2020 growth strategy.
During this period, the carrier aims at becoming a leading airline in Poland and Central and Eastern Europe servicing over 10 million passengers per year, gradually increasing its fleet and launching new flights.
The carrier estimates the Polish air passenger market to grow by five percent annually, and LOT is determined to regain its lost market share in Poland, aiming at approximately 25 percent.
The carrier will focus on developing new traffic primarily to the USA and to Asia, with flights to Seoul to start within the coming few weeks and flights to Newark in the USA are also in the planning with initially four, later five weekly rotations from the start of the 2017 summer season.
The focus will thus be on transfer traffic that is estimated to grow in 2020 to 50 percent at Warsaw Airport.
To cope with the planned increase in traffic, LOT estimates that in 2020 it will operate a total of about 70 aircraft, including 16 Boeing 787 Dreamliner wide-body aircraft and approximately 15 new single-aisle planes with 150-plus seating capacity being introduced from 2017.
