Sep 27, 2016 (newstodate): Latvia has high ambitions for attracting Asian long-haul traffic from especially China.
As an important part of these efforts, the two countries have landed an MoU aiming at enhancing the joint development of relations in the aviation industry.
The MoU was inked on September 23, 2016, by the Latvian Transport Minister Uldis Augulis and Administrator of Civil Aviation Agency of China, Feng Zhenglin.
There have been regular visits of state officials and businessmen throughout 2016, helping to create a foundation for business cooperation and future development.
Earlier in September 2015, Latvia and China's Chengdu municipality signed a MoU for cooperation in the transport sector, aiming at promoting the launch of air services between Chengdu and Riga.
Riga Airport is also negotiating with Chinese e-commerce companies including Alibaba for establishing the airport as a European transit point for e-shipments to Northern Europe.
