Sep 19, 2016 (newstodate): The spectacular order from Iran for 118 Airbus aircraft, announced in May 2016, have since been shrouded by silence.
Now, Iran's Deputy Minister of Transported has said in an interview that after several rounds of negotiations, Iran Air and Airbus have now reached agreement on a final price for the 118 aircraft, financing plan and transaction method.
The period of repayment has accordingly been set to 18 years, but the deal, however, still hinges on the required export license from the American Governments Office of Foreign Assets Control.
The delivery schedule comprises five Airbus A320 and A330 aircraft in 2016, together with three ATR72-600 aircraft.
This will be followed by 14 more aircraft in 2017, and by 2024 all 45 A320, 45 A330, 16 A350 and 12 A38, expected to be firmed up would be delivered.
The first ATR delivery is slated for November 2016, and all of the 20 aircraft ordered would be delivered by 2020.
Iran Air has also secured options for a further 20 ATR72-600 aircraft that are expected to be confirmed in 2021.
