Sep 30, 2016 (newstodate): Kalaallit Airport A/S, the company set up in June 2016 by Greenland's government to materialize plans for a new airports infrastructure in Greenland, is now recruiting its CEO to steer the challenging process.
-Interviews with candidates are currently being undertaken by the HR bureau contracted, and we expect to be able to present the winning candidate by early December 2016, says Leo Larsen, Kalaallit Airport A/S Chairman of the Board.
-The coming new CEO will then be responsible for developing the organization to shoulder the task of planning and steering the projects, freezing an investment plan and seek investors for realization of the expensive projects, says Mr Larsen.
Currently serving as interim CEO of Kalaallit Airport is Jakup Sverri Kass, Vagar Airport CEO, who will later remain as member of the Board that also comprises Peter Eduard Christiansen, Anna-Berit Koertzand Aviaja Lyberth Lennert.
Plans now confirmed are that the runway at the capital airport at Nuuk will be extended from today's 950m to 1,800m, Ilulissat Airport will also have its runway extended to 1,800m from today's 845m, and a new airport will be constructed at Qaqortoq with a 1,200m runway.
Kalaallit Airport will thus not be involved in plans for the future of other airports, notably the current Transatlantic airport and former USAF base at Kangerlussuaq/Sdr Stromfjord that is in dire need for long-overdue and costly reconstruction of runway and other infrastructure.
