Sep 08, 2016 (newstodate): The Faroese carrier Atlantic Airways has now re-delivered one of three Airbus A319 aircraft to Air Malta after the expiry of its 41-month lease agreement.
The carrier took delivery of its first Airbus A319 aircraft in March 2012, adding a second Airbus in spring 2013 to operate charter flights for the tour operator Atlantis Rejser to leisure destinations, primarily out of Denmark's Billund Airport, and finally acquired a third Airbus A319 in October 2013 following a second contract with the tour operator to provide charter capacity, primarily out of Copenhagen.
On May 1, 2015, Atlantic Airways signed an MoU with Airbus for the acquisition of one Airbus A320 aircraft slated for delivery in December 2016.
-In our configuration, the A320 will have 168 seats, compared to the 144 seats on our three Airbus A319 aircraft, and this extra capacity will allow us to expand our offering on not least the route between the Faroe Islands and Denmark. We expect the A320 to come in time for being introduced on the routes already in time for the Christmas peak, Johanna a Bergi, Atlantic Airways CEO told readers of newstodate in February 2016.
-One of the three Airbus A319 will be redelivered to its owner by September or October which will be in the slack season, and after this the two remaining A319 aircraft will serve on our scheduled routes, with one aircraft dedicated to the shorter flights under the NORD strategy, Ms a Bergi said.
