Sep 15, 2016 (newstodate): High ambitions and cooperation with a substantive partner did not make the day for Greenland's airline project, Aluu Airlines.
Following the Greenlandic government's decision on the tender for service contracts concerning the country's domestic transportation of passengers, mail and cargo, Aluu Airlines has folded its wings before ever taking off.
-Our partner, Bristow was determined to participating in investments in four to five Sikorsky S92 helicopters and two ATR aircraft, but with the decision by the government to increase the use of ships rather than aircraft in serving the country's needs for transportation this is now off the agenda, says Kuno Fencker, driving the aborted project together with Pele Broberg.
-We have invested quite a substantial amount of money in this project and were ready to launch operations, but the fight is over for now.
-Worse still, much damage has been done to the notion of Greenland as a country positive towards development and innovation, and foreign investors will draw a lesson from this as well. Any renewed attempt will indeed be an uphill battle.
-In conclusion I would still claim that our offer was by far the best the country could hope for. It is sad for Greenland to have lost this opportunity for a significant enhancement of the country's infrastructure, says Mr Fencker.
As already reported by newstodate, Greenland decided to grant the service contracts taking effect from January 1, 2017, to Air Greenland, Disko Line and Norlandair
