Sep 07, 2016 (newstodate): Bombardier's new aircraft, the CSeries has again run into problems.
Bombardier now says it will deliver only seven CSeries aircraft in 2016 against 15 planned, citing Pratt & Whitney PW1500G engine delivery delays.
This will hurt SWISS that has taken delivery of its first two CS100 aircraft, with a third to be added to the fleet in October 2016.
So far plans were that SWISS would take delivery of nine CSeries aircraft in 2016, with deliveries rising from one per month from July through September to two monthly from October through December. This is now not going to be.
As matters stand now, the Latvian carrier airBaltic will still take delivery of its first larger variant of the CSeries aircraft, the CS300, in this year's Q4, presumably also by October.
airBaltic has placed firm orders for the delivery of a total of 20 CS300 aircraft, with the first four expected to be in the fleet before the end of 2016.
The first deliveries were originally slated for 2013 but the launch flight by the CS100 aircraft was only on September 26, 2013, about one year later than originally planned as the program was hit by numerous technical and not least financial snags along the way.
As late as November 2015, the carrier still expected to have 10 CS300 aircraft flying before the end of 2016,
