Sep 01, 2016 (newstodate): According to airBaltic, the Latvian carrier has achieved the fastest growth in passenger numbers among the top carriers serving the Baltic region in the peak summer month of July.
Looking only into airBaltic's own figures and those of the three capital airports in the Baltic region, the carrier's hub at Riga Airport came out of July with only a modest growth by 0.4 percent in passengers numbers, to 556,303.
Of these, airBaltic accounted for 299,661, an increase by four percent, y-o-y, and thus generating 54 percent of the passenger numbers at Riga Airport.
The region's second-largest airport in passenger volumes, Lithuania's Vilnius Airport saw 375,726 passengers in July, and this was a strong growth by 15.52 percent compared to July 2015.
At Vilnius Airport airBaltic accounted for 25,677 passengers, which was an increase by no less than 28 percent, y-o-y, and corresponding to seven percent of the airport's total.
227,867 passengers were handled at Estonia's Tallinn Airport in July, a decline by one percent, y-o-y.
Here airBaltic lifted 34,109 passengers, which was 22 percent more than last year - and the carrier thus accounted for 15 percent of the airport's total passenger volume.
airBaltic thus clearly managed to gain in market shares at all three Baltic airports.
