Sep 29, 2016 (newstodate): Bombardier is struggling hard to keep deliveries of its CS series aircraft running despite snags and problems in subcontractors' production.
The aircraft manufacturer has informed the market that deliveries of the CS aircraft will reach only seven this year, against 15 as earlier planned, citing sustained P&W engine troubles.
In service now are two CS100 aircraft with Swiss that is slated to receive a third aircraft in October.
Launch customer for the larger CS300 aircraft is Latvia's airBaltic that will take delivery of its first aircraft by mid-Q4 2016.
airBaltic now hopes to receive a second CS300 before the end of this year which is still a far cry from the 10 aircraft in 2016 as hoped for in November 2015, or even the four aircraft hoped for as late as July 2016.
Needless to say, the sustained delays in the CS series program and delivery scheme leave its airlines customers with severe difficulties in planning routes, crews, flights and frequencies.
Bombardier's late-running program also leaves airlines with issues of lease contract extensions and other obligations from continued need for aircraft that were scheduled to be replaced by the new aircraft according to set time frames.
