Sep 09, 2016 (newstodate): Denmark's Aalborg Airport, in the northernmost part of Jutland, has its focus on passenger air traffic.
The airport has scheduled connections to Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Istanbul in addition to charter flights to a range of leisure destinations.
Today, cargo is physically handled on a limited scale only, primarily shipments from Jetpak, with the pertaining paper work provided by Spirit in Billund Airport.
The airport is, however, fully prepared to invest in air cargo handling if required by operators.
-We have a strategy for air cargo, and once an airline would signal intentions to build up cargo activities at the airport we are ready to invest in new infrastructure including warehouse and other facilities, and GSE is already at hand, says Soren Svendsen, Aalborg Airport general manager.
-Our attention is focused on Greenland, as Aalborg Harbor is Denmark's prime facility serving the maritime cargo connections with Greenland. Also numerous local industries relating to servicing and providing Greenland are clustering in this region generating a strong market for logistics and transportation where air transport services will also be growing in importance.
-We are talking with Air Greenland, but any airline with a focus on business in the North Atlantic markets are potential partners to Aalborg Airport.
-Once a contract on air cargo with an airline has been signed, we could move instantly to set up the required infrastructure as the land allocation, design works and analysis have already been completed, says Mr Svendsen.
