Aug 15, 2016 (newstodate): Russia's Yekaterinburg Koltsovo Airport is seeing brisk growth in cargo volumes in 20916.
During the first seven months of 2016 the airport has handled 13,271 tonnes of cargo - an increase by 36 percent, y-o-y.
A significant trend in 2016 is that the growth in domestic cargo is now overtaking the growth in international cargo.
Cargo on domestic flights has thus increased by 73 percent, y-o-y, to 7,757 tonnes, while international cargo, 5,554 tonnes, was up by only 5.5 percent.
Mail volumes through the airport that is also Russia's center of international postal exchange were up by 80 percent, y-o-y, to over 2,000 tonnes, driven not least by growing e-commerce between Russia and China.
Koltsovo Airport has thus seen an increase by 45 percent in volumes of cargo from China, processed at the airport's new cargo complex opened in 2012 with a cargo handling capacity of up to 100,000 tonnes per year.
Ural Airlines is now operating a TU-204 freighter service seven times per week from Beijing and once weekly from Harbin, and Aviastar-TU is also operating twice weekly from Harbin.
The new flights by Ural Airlines may thus also bring in ex-China e-trade shipments into the Nordic region as part of China's build-up of its new e-commerce logistics infrastructure.
