Aug 04, 2016 (newstodate): Latest figures from the first half of the year confirms the leading position in the Baltic region of Latvia's Riga Airport.
During the period, Riga Airport generated 45 percent of the entire Baltic air passenger traffic and 46 percent of the air cargo volumes in the Baltic region.
In the first half of 2016, the number of passengers handled at the Airport grew by 6.3 percent, the number of flights increased by 2.1 percent, while cargo volumes went up by 9.8 percent, all compared to H1, 2015.
Also the number of transfer passengers grew by 18.4 percent, y-o-y as transit/transfer passengers through Riga Airport accounted for 26.6 percent of the total number of passengers.
The main transfer destinations were Tallinn, Vilnius, Helsinki, Moscow, St Petersburg, Stockholm, Kiev, Berlin, Amsterdam and Copenhagen, while the largest growth in transfer traffic was recorded in flights to Moscow, St Petersburg, Tallinn, London and Kiev.
The forecast for the full-year passenger volumes in 2016 through Riga Airport now stands around 5.3 mio passengers.
