Aug 17, 2016 (newstodate): A new Ukrainian charter carrier Air Anda is eagerly awaiting the final green light to commence commercial operations.
The carrier took delivery of its first aircraft, a former Swiftair MD-83, on July 19, 2016, and was ready to start flights immediately after. But red tape is keeping the project grounded.
The carrier complains that contradictory laws and regulations exist in Ukraine's civil air transportation code, with one law requiring an applicant to have at least two aircraft in the fleet before being issued with an operating license, while other documents require only one aircraft in the case of charter carrier applications.
Caught in the midst of these contradictory requirements, Anda Air's aircraft remains on the tarmac while the carrier has all other pertinent approvals.
Mainly backed by foreign investors, Anda Air plans to launch charter flights to destinations in Turkey, Egypt, Montenegro, Croatia, Albania and Greece.
Anda Air was registered in Kiev by the end of 2015, founded by former head of Dart Airline Serhiy Shamenko and Heorhiy Avanesov, with Mr. Shamenko serving as Anda Air CEO.
